Mazel Tov, Big Bro

Just reflecting on the love fest that was my big bro Josh and his GORGEOUS bride Melissa's wedding.  It was perfect, from start to finish.  Everything from the groomsmen's sneakers and royal blue shoelaces to the funky first dance was so "them".

The venue was fabulous--a great historic building on Toronto's east side. They decorated the lovely outdoor space with aqua and royal blue hanging lanterns, and the inside (which was already dramatic with several huge chadelliers) with twinkly candle lights.  Each table was graced with a lovely Ball mason jar filled with flowers.  And this had special significance because their last names are both Ball.  No, I get it, people often change their names when they get married.  But really, their names, pre nuptials, were Josh Ball and Melissa Ball.  Seriously.  I think my uncle, Mel Ball, was particularly pleased by their union.  Now, the question is: will Josh and Melissa follow in the tradition of my parents, and have a wooden sign custom made to hang at the front of their house...othat reads, "The Ball's"?  Methinks not.  But perhaps they'll think it's only fair to subject their own rugrats-to-be to the same endless ridicule we endured throughout high school from any friend who ever came to our house.  When the sign was inevitably stolen from our house, my parents just couldn't understand what hoodlum would do such a thing!!

Mel looked beyond gorgeous.  Her dress was a stunning mermaid style with super elegant and dramatic detailing.  And she was just radiant in it. Josh looked great in his suit, aqua tie, and sneaks.  The two of them just seemed so happy and relaxed, and most importantly, thrilled to be marrying each other.

The night was a great tribute to the love and care they have for each other. The speeches touched on the mensch that is Josh Ball, and the gentle sweetheart that is Melissa Ball. And what a great pair they make.    As a child, I always looked up to my brother, but that was largely at his butt as it hung inches away from my face, threatening to detonate a fart bomb on me. Ah, the days of our youth.  As an adult, I have truly looked up to him as someone who always sees the glass half full, who follows his dreams, and who radiates friendliness and positivity.   I wish I was more like him in many ways.

I was honoured to have been a part of this lovely affair (apparently, I'm 75 now) both as a sister, and a bridesmaid.  M. held court as Best Man and gave a very heartfelt speech, and Big J rocked as a ring bearer.  Little J did a great job just looking cute in her fancy dress.

Josh and Mel, wishing you a lifetime of love, happiness, and laughter.  I love you both!
