We read about the fact that the Balinese love children, and consider them to be closest to god. Our guidebook said not to be surprised if people offer to hold the kids, or whisk them away to entertain them in order to give travelling parents a break.
Our hotel staff all know our kids by name, and always greet them happily. And so does everyone else. As we walk down the street each day, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, from shopkeepers to construction workers greets our kids and give high fives or pinch cheeks. Big J has taken a shine to it all, and it's making him more outgoing too. He will often introduce himself first to the many friendly faces we pass as we walk through town.

M. and I had foot massages on day 1... |

The friendly staff members amused the kids while we relaxed for 20 minutes. Heaven. |
Our kids have been held and cuddled by numerous friendly people already. I had my fair share of concerns about bringing young kids to Bali. But I am finding that it is in fact a perfect place to travel with young kids. We are interacting with local people on an entirely new level. And Big and Little J cause us to slow down more, to wonder more, and to imagine the wonder their little brains are filled with in this gorgeous land.
