For those of you who haven't tried Indonsian food, I'll see if i can concoct a description. Id say it has some similarities to Thai food, in that it's based around rice, noodles, peanuts and fresh herbs. But it not really spicy like Thai food. Gado Gado, a popular dish, is reminiscent of a French nicoise salad, only hold the tuna, add in tofu and tempeh, and dress with peanut sauce.
It's less greasy, and not gelatinous like some than Chinese food. And it doesn't have the sophistication of Malaysian food, where the layering of herbs and spices from India, China and Southest Asia blend together. But it's not peasant food either.
I'm realizing that food writing is really hard. Let me just say Indonesian food is yummy, and we'll call it a day.
