Logistics and Luxury

You may wonder how we are travelling with the kids and keeping everyone sane.  Our plan has been to  alternate more action packed days with more relaxed ones.  We also try to keep the kids on a schedule as much as possible, and (fingers crossed), so far we’ve established a great rhythm.  We tend to get up, eat breakfast at the hotel, and go off to see some sights.  We’ve hired an amazing driver, Rai, who has 4 of his own children, and has such a kind and gentle way with all of us. After breakfast,  Little J naps in her car seat or on us.  After our morning activity, we eat lunch wherever we happen to be. Then we return to our hotel, and both kids go down for a nap from about 2:00-4:00 p.m.  During this time, M. and I switch off going out and exploring (or getting massages, as the case may be). When the kids wake up, we have Afternoon Tea at the hotel, which consists of Balinese cakes and coffee.  And then off to explore again a bit before finding a restaurant for an earlyish dinner.  And then back to the hotel and in bed by 7:30.
Today was a relaxation day, so we hopped on our hotel’s free shuttle to its sister resort, about 10 minutes drive out of town.  Although our hotel has a lovely pool, we’re also allowed to use the one there at no cost, and I was curious to check it out. I knew it was going to be fancy, but holy Moses.  Set amidst acres of lush rice paddies, it was ludicrously breathtaking.  Since accommodation in Bali can range from $15 a night home stays to $500 a night with butler and private pool villas, I guess I wasn’t too surprised.  Needless to say, we'll be returning to spend another morning there very soon.
